A glass case in our lobby displays official,
laminated letters from state and local officials, prominent businessmen
and others who recognized Dec. 22, 1998 as "Julian's Day."
That day marked Julian C. Lopez Sr.'s 30th year in business serving prime
rib, lobster and other specialties in the landmark A-frame building, 88 S.
Atlantic Ave., Ormond Beach. It also was a celebration of the American
dream. Lopez emigrated in the mid-'50s from Cuba with a college degree but
little money. He worked his way from dishwasher to owner of one local
restaurant before building Julian's in 1967.
Our menu includes nearly two dozen seafood
dinners from deviled crabs to South African lobster tails and nearly as
many meat dishes, including many cuts of beef, lamb, poultry and pork.
Authentic Cuban black bean soup and prime rib are among customers'
favorites.
Julian's has many classic touches, an organist
playing dinner music and the availability of personal charge accounts, for
two. But the restaurant's Web site shows Lopez and his family, most
members of which work daily in the business, look toward the future.
